TRANSCRIPT:

Living here, in the Lehigh Valley, water systems, are something you really need to consider. Unfortunately, your tap water at different times may harbor microscopic particles that can have adverse effects on your long-term health and well-being. These chemicals and particles can alter the taste and odor of your water, and some microbiological organisms can even make you sick — sometimes chronically, and you might not even realize this is the reason why.

You might be wondering, why should I care about water systems in the Lehigh Valley? I mean, we've got vibrant communities, and bustling cities, we live in a great area. And we certainly do. But let me tell you, having a water system in the Lehigh Valley plays a crucial role in our daily lives, from the moment we turn on the faucet to when we take a bath or shower.

Much of the drinking water in Allentown comes from surface water sources like the Little Lehigh Creek and groundwater sources such as Schantz Spring. The Lehigh County Authority gets its drinking water from Allentown's water system and over a dozen different wells spread across the watershed. A watershed, by the way, is the land area where all the water that falls and eventually drains into the same body of water, either on the surface or through groundwater.

In the city of Bethlehem, the water exceeds both federal and state standards for drinking water quality. But just because water here in the Valley's townships, boroughs, and cities are at or above the standard, doesn't necessarily mean it's optimal.

With a professional, high quality water system, you will have access to clean, safe, and reliable water in your home at all times. I'm talking about the water you drink, the water you cook with, and all the water you use for personal hygiene. Because we live in such a beautiful area, we might take for granted how water contributes to the overall quality of our lives — supporting everything from residential neighborhoods to local businesses and industries.
